Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
BT have 1 game and SKY generally can have 3 but it can vary from week to week, sometimes there isn't a Monday game at all

The slots for live games are;

Sat 12:45
Sat 17:15
Sun 13:30
Sun 16:00
Mon 20:00

Sometimes they can be changed slightly as well

Well, this has provoked a conflagration that I did not anticipate.

But it sounds to me like there are three matches in every weekend that will be moved for TV. Assuming it's a weekend without mid-week games the following week, one game will move to Monday.

But, given I never watch matches on UK television, the other two will move to what day/time slots?

The current fixture list shows all 10 games at 15:00h on Saturday. If I understand the scheduling (and I'm not sure I really do), one of these will be moved to an earlier start time on Saturday, one will be moved to Monday, and normally two will be moved to Sunday. Is that correct?

BUT we can't answer the persons question any different based on the information we have and taking into account if Sky were picking the game today, the situation could be very different come the actual time they pick the game.

This week they picked Swansea v Watford when it wouldn't have been one of the 3 the vast majority of fans would have picked from the available fixtures.

So the only conclusion I can come to is the game is as likely to be picked as any other game that weekend as it stands.

Croe i'll refer you back to your own post:

'but without knowing these factors and there is no way of knowing them, Sky won't release them for a while yet (March isn't out yet) and things can change with form, the number of times a team has featured between now and when they pick the ties'

I don't know all of the influencing factors that Sky apply when selecting the TV games, the same way as you don't know them . If I knew these then I could calculate the probability based on those factors.

I'm not trying to be difficult and I can see exactly where you're coming from and why you said 1 in 10 but calculating probabilities isn't always that simple. It's like saying in a 10 horse race every horse has a chance of winning which is a true statement but the probability of every horse winning isn't 1 in 10 because there are other influencing factors such as weight, jockey, trainer, form and that is reflected in the odds.

The answer to your question is yes all 10 fixtures have the chance of being moved, but not with an equal 1 in 10 probability.

You are probably right and without knowing what the algorithm is you can't accurately predict the probability week on week.

As it will transpire at the end of the season not all teams will have featured the same amount of times on TV, the algorithm will be weighted towards the perceived bigger teams and bigger fixtures. As it always is.

This proves that the probability week on week is not equal for all teams, there is a clear weighting being applied.

Of course but without knowing these factors and there is no way of knowing them, Sky won't release them for a while yet (March isn't out yet) and things can change with form, the number of times a team has featured between now and when they pick the ties, so what is the actual answer to the question?

Could ANY of the games that weekend be changed to Monday night?

Yes or No

Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
I'm pretty sure there's an algorithm for this?

Terrywait 6:00 Wed Jan 20
Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
Its cant be defined mathematically .

The answer, in the context of the question would be more like "not vey likely"

RichyP 6:00 Wed Jan 20
Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
if Sky chose their tv games by putting all the games in a hat and then picked out the fixtures to be televised then that would defiantly be a 1 in 10 probability as there are no other influencing factors.

As it is their are influencing factors such as the minimum criteria that each team must be on TV and the importance/perceived size of the game. These factors will skew the probabilities.

But I'm not wrong, go back and read his question.

I've given my answer now it's time to settle this nonsense and give him yours if I'm wrong.

WHAT CHANCE HAS THE WEST HAM GAME GOT OF BEING SWITCHED TO THE MONDAY NIGHT?

The answer is?

Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
Except its not that simple is it.
Just admit it, you're wrong. Its ok to be wrong.

whufcroe 5:55 Wed Jan 20
Re: Tickets to Palace match on April 2
It's as simple as this

Could West Ham's game be switch to the Monday night from the TEN fixtures taking place that weekend.

YES

Sky have TEN fixtures and will only show ONE and it could be ANY of the TEN.

Do Sky always pick the THREE biggest games games to show live? NO

So it could be ANY of the fixtures.

Jesus wept
